See Your Impact.

Each month, we send our donors a newsletter that provides an in-depth look at the recipients of their donations.

september 2024

newsletter

We have successfully raised $1,395 to support our fifth recipient for Just5 New York! Our September recipient is a 40-year-old Jewish male from Great Neck, New York who is currently facing overwhelming medical bills.

Our recipient’s life changed last year when he was diagnosed with colon cancer. He has undergone multiple medical scans, attended various doctor’s appointments, and is actively participating in a clinical trial, seeking hope for his condition. Despite having a full time job, he cannot stay afloat as radiology bills are often excluded from insurance.

Thanks to your support, we have been able to reduce his medical bill and ensure he receives the essential care he needs without any added worry. Your generosity has provided him with much-needed relief.

A heartfelt thank you to Cayla's Challahs (@Caylaschallahs on IG) for partnering with J5 this month. Her weekly homemade challah sales with proceeds benefiting charities nationwide, have become a powerful force for good.

August 2024

newsletter

We have successfully raised $810 to support our fourth recipient for Just5 New York! Our August recipient is a widowed Jewish woman in her late 50s struggling to stay afloat with overwhelming medical bills and debt. She lives alone in a humble apartment in Queens, New York.

Our recipient’s life changed in 2014 when she was diagnosed with leukemia, diabetes, and a rare blood disorder, which has left her wheelchair bound. Due to her frequent treatments, she is also unable to work. She lost her husband in 2020 during the pandemic and does not have any children. She lives a modest life and even with all the darkness around her, she looks forward to Shabbat every week to bring brightness into her home.

With limited support, her primary income comes from Social Security, most of which goes toward covering her apartment expenses. She struggles to manage her medical bills, credit card debt, and even the cost of Shabbat meals.

Thanks to your help, we have been able to contribute to her debt payments and Shabbat meals that will continue to bring her a source of community warmth and support.

July 2024

newsletter

We have successfully raised $587 to support our third recipient for Just5 New York! Our July recipient is a widowed Jewish woman in her late 60’s struggling to make ends meet. She lives with her two children in a modest apartment in Uniondale, New York.

Our recipient’s only sources of income are her Social Security benefits and the minimal earnings from her son, who is only able to work part-time. Despite her best efforts, she is months behind on her bills and is facing increasing financial pressure due to a recent rent increase. She is deeply concerned about the possibility of losing their home as she and her family face the danger of eviction.

This month’s recipient depends on canned goods and packaged meals for her family, only getting poultry and meat on rare occasions. Despite her own difficult situation, she even offered to give up their financial aid to help someone else in greater need.

In their words

“Thank you, everybody, from the bottom of my heart, I don’t know what I would do without you. You young professionals should keep up the good work. I’m so grateful for what you guys have done. My advice to you all: Do good and be good to others because it will always find a way back to you. Choose Kindness. And never forget a smile goes a long way. “

June 2024

newsletter

We have successfully raised $3,742 to support our second recipient for Just5 New York! Our June recipient is a 51-year-old Jewish woman who moved from Los Angeles to New York. Her story is one of incredible hardship and resilience.

Our recipient's life took a devastating turn when she was misdiagnosed and advised to undergo physical therapy. During a visit to her family in Los Angeles, her condition deteriorated, leaving her unable to walk. That’s when doctors diagnosed her with stage IV cancer.

Our recipient's situation is dire. She receives weekly chemotherapy treatments and is unable to work. She lives with the constant fear of eviction from her apartment, as she has no income. The financial and emotional toll on both her and her parents has been immense.

With the help of our donors, we were able to assist with her rent and her most pressing medical expenses.

For this month's donation, we give a special thank you to Just5 LA for collaborating with us.

In their words

"I'm at a loss for words to express my gratitude. Thank you so deeply. Your generosity means the world to me. Dealing with my daughter's illness has brought constant worry, and your support not only helps me financially but also aids in my healing.

I want to leave you with a piece of advice: embrace every moment and appreciate what you have when you have it. Not day by day, but minute by minute, because every minute counts, and we never know what the next one may bring. The future is always uncertain. Your kindness reminds me to appreciate
the present, and for that, I am truly grateful."
